Dear West Bend ,
My office has received many emails and phone calls regarding safe reopening of schools in September. While the Province and local school boards are responsible for the back to school plans, Toronto Public Health has been providing guidance to Toronto school boards on these plans to ensure a safer return to school for children.
Toronto Public Health is establishing a team of more than 70 nurses to provide support for schools as they reopen. Public health teams will also be providing mental health and well-being support in school settings, along with rapid-response outbreak investigation, case management and support the planning process for testing if a COVID-19 case is detected in a school setting.
The City is also gearing up to offer fall recreation programs beginning this October -toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/recreation (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=6f139ca1c7&e=382fa4aa2e) . Many community centres will also offer free recreation programs this fall, including leisure swimming and drop-in programs for children, youth and older adults. More information is available at toronto.ca/lowcostrecreation (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=9a6c788914&e=382fa4aa2e) . Registration for fall recreation programming will take place from September 12 to 16.
Modified Heat Relief Network
The City of Toronto’s modified Heat Relief Network features a wide array of cool spaces that are open during and beyond Heat Warnings and others open only during Heat Warnings. It includes pools, wading pools, splash pads, community centres and, during Heat Warnings, Emergency Cooling Centres (ECCs) for the public.
The network now includes 72 Toronto Public Library branches that are open for Stage 3 service, which can be used for cooling; 47 community centres and pools that have space, including lobby space and seating, for residents to use for indoor cooling; more than 300 aquatic amenities including the City’s 140 splash pads, 100 wading pools, 56 outdoor swimming pools and 29 indoor pools. An interactive map (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=3f2a22cc80&e=382fa4aa2e) is available online to help those who need to access a cool space find a location near them.
I will continue to update you with more information as they become available to me.
For any Ward 4 or City-related matters, email my office at councillor_perks.ca .
