Richard Laszlo and Tim Short, the co-founders of CutYourHomeCarbon.com, are on a mission to help homeowners and small businesses cut their carbon emissions. They do this using a one-on-one hand-holding approach with each homeowner and business owner, listening to their concerns and then leveraging their collective 40+ years of experience in energy and the environment and their network of vetted HVAC contractors to offer proper solutions. They know what technologies work, are practical and cost effective to the owners, and which ones may not be the right fit for their needs.
Richard and Tim are themselves already users in their homes of most of the low carbon technologies most often talked about. These include hybrid heat pumps, mini-split ductless heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, solar water heaters, heat-recovery drain pipes, tankless/on-demand water heaters, PV solar (net meter and micro-FIT), EVs and EV chargers, and insulation. They walk the talk. They know firsthand how the current technologies play out in their families’ daily routines and household budgets. They are also experts in how homeowners can make maximum use of government grant programs.
Richard and Tim are also currently designing and building an electronic device for homes that HVAC contractors would install to help homeowners optimize their household utility costs and emissions when operating a heat pump in conjunction with a gas furnace as in the case of hybrid heating. The device, aptly named ‘GreenBox’, is being field tested with the support of gas and electric utilities across the country, and also the Federal Government.
