Dear West Bend ,
This Monday, the Mayor proclaimed August 31^st as Overdose Awareness Day in the City of Toronto. The opioid crisis remains an urgent public health crisis, exacerbated further by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In my capacity as the Chair of Toronto Drug Strategy Implementation Panel, I wrote a letter (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=1553bdad49&e=382fa4aa2e) in support of the Board of Health urging the Ontario Ministry of Health to support managed opioid/safer supply initiatives.
Two weeks ago, an announcement was made for $1.6 million in federal funding for harm reduction efforts in Toronto.More than $582,000 is earmarked for an emergency safer supply pilot project led by Parkdale Queen West Community Health Clinic. This is great news for the community and it is imperative that funding continues for live saving harm reduction efforts.
On Monday, the City also launched its Resurgence Plan (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=5ba3b92bc3&e=382fa4aa2e) . This plan outlines potential changes to city services in the event of a resurgence of COVID-19. The five priority areas of the City’s response are to implement public health measures, support vulnerable populations, support City employees, mitigate the impact to Toronto’s economy and ensure the resiliency of City services and a coordinated response.
I will continue to share any updates regarding this plan and other City-related matters.
My office can be reached at councillor_perks@toronto.ca for any questions or concerns.
Sincerely, Gord
