Hello West Bend Community,
This Tuesday, the local community associations in Ward 4 are sponsoring an all-candidates meeting to give residents an opportunity to meet the individuals seeking your vote to be City Councillor. The event team has worked hard to ensure it will be an interesting event for all, where attendees can form a solid and informed opinion on who should represent them at City Hall. You are highly encouraged to attend! If there are questions on specific issues that you would like to see asked of the candidates, please respond with them to this newsletter.
On Wednesday, October 17th we will hold our Annual General Meeting. The meeting is open to everyone! We will be accepting new members and welcoming returning members to vote on our executive team and goals for the upcoming year.
Topics for discussion will include:
- Municipal election on October 22
- Traffic calming in the West Bend
- Adopt a section of the Railside Garden
- Multiple high-rise development proposals
- A donation to the Junction Historical Society
With a smaller city council and significantly more residents represented by each Councillor, Community Associations take on even greater importance. The West Bend Community Association represents the interests of our local community and has had a very noticeable and positive impact.
We helped prevent Metrolinx from building a 5m solid concrete wall shadowing our Railside Garden — a garden which we now have funds to build and maintain. We stopped an oversized 30 storey building from being constructed on the tiny plot at Bloor & Dundas, we oversaw the revitalization of many local parks, and we continue to insist that the many new real-estate developments in the area make as positive a contribution to the community as possible.
Your Community Association is a great place to sound out neighbourhood concerns and find others that share them with you. We work together to ensure the West Bend remains among the best places in Toronto to live, work and visit. We exist because of and for our local community. If you would like to get more involved in the neighbourhood, want to get to know more of your neighbours, or are just curious; please come out and join us on Wednesday.
We look forward to seeing you for the beginning of an exciting year in the West Bend!
