Action is needed now. After a year-long study, the City of Toronto is presenting its findings on creating a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) along Dundas Street West. Your participation will decide whether the Junction’s unique character is protected from demolition and out-of-character new construction.
What is an HCD?
Unlike individual heritage designations, an HCD protects the entire streetscape – historic building patterns, architectural details, and the public spaces that give the Junction its identity.
Open House details
📅 Open House: Wednesday, June 17
🕠 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
📍 West Toronto Baptist Church, 3049 Dundas Street W.
Who: City of Toronto Heritage Planning and consultants will gather public opinion and record participation.
What we want more of:
- Protected facades of century-old buildings
- Sensitive redevelopment that fits the existing streetscape
- Growth using deep lots and laneways
- Scale and character that respect Dundas West and Keele Street
What we want less of:
- Alterations that remove heritage features
- Out-of-scale new buildings
- Long, uninterrupted mid-rise street walls
- Materials and designs unrelated to the area’s historic context
