The following is shared at the request of Anna Sorokin, Fora Developments.

From Anna Sorokin:
Hello West Bend Community Association,
I have requested that this note be posted here to share an important update on the naming process for the new private road within the development at 2400–2440 Dundas Street West.
Background
This new public road will begin at the existing intersection on Dundas St. W and end at the Metrolinx pickup and drop-off loop.We are committed to incorporating Indigenous placekeeping and knowledge into this development. To guide us, we are working with:
- The City of Toronto’s Indigenous Office
- Donna Powless of the Taiaiako’n Historical Preservation Society
👉 View Donna Powless’ bio here (opens in new tab)
The gifted name: Duwisduwi
After consultations with Six Nations members, Donna and the Indigenous Office have gifted us the name Duwisduwi for the new private road.
- Meaning: Killdeer (a bird)
- Significance: This is a prominent clan name within the Six Nations. The Killdeer bird continues to live and thrive on the gravel mounds and pits of the rail corridor—as they have for generations.
We are deeply grateful to Donna and the Six Nations community for their time, knowledge, and support.
Request for feedback
As part of the City of Toronto’s naming application review process, I am requesting that members of the West Bend Community Association provide any feedback they may have on this proposed name.
