Dear West Bend ,
As you have probably heard, many parts of our province are moving into Phase Three of the Province’s reopening framework tomorrow (Friday, July 17). While this does not include Toronto at this point, we can expect to reach this milestone soon. In the meantime, items at the City level are starting to open for your enjoyment.
This past Tuesday our ward’s High Park Zoo joined Riverdale Farm and Toronto’s conservatories in reopening to the public. While the zoo is open 7:00 am to dusk, the Friends of High Park Zoo will be opening the lama pens this Saturday, from noon to 2:00 pm.
On Monday, July 20 the City’s community centres, recreation centres and indoor pools will reopen. All locations will have modified programming to meet current safety standards. While pools will be open for lane and leisure swimming, our gymnasiums, fitness areas, and facilitated indoor sports will remain closed. Ellis Avenue (Queensway to Lake Shore) Bike Lane
The long awaited Ellis Bike lane between Queensway and Lake Shore Boulevard should be installed in the next few weeks. The change will include permanently closing the Southbound right-turn channel at Lake Shore Boulevard. This channel and the resulting pedestrian island has been a constant complaint of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike, as it creates unsafe passage towards our waterfront and poor visibility for drivers. The channel will currently be closed with 2 concrete barriers, painted by two local StreetARToronto (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=5589763d6a&e=382fa4aa2e) artists.
Parkdale Emergency Cooling Centre: New Location
This week the Parkdale emergency cooling centre has moved from the Parkdale Library to the Masaryk-Cowan Community Recreation Centre (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=916cd5a0f7&e=382fa4aa2e) (220 Cowan Avenue). With weather reports reaching a high of 35 degrees this weekend, please pass along this information to anyone in need.
