Dear West Bend
Yesterday the City entered Stage 2 of reopening, following Monday’s announcement by the provincial government. This means the reopening of some services and businesses including restaurants and bars with patios, personal care services, shopping malls and select recreational spaces such as splash pads and pools.
I would like to remind you that COVID-19 remains a risk in our community and no service can resume or space reopen without the proper public health measures in place. Businesses must follow physical distancing measures, enhanced cleaning and disinfection, and other public health requirements. To assist business owners, the City has created a searchable and sortable table containing public heath guidelines that can be found at toronto.ca/reopening (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=b99a187e8d&e=382fa4aa2e) .
City Council Meeting On Monday, June 29, City Council will hold its third virtual meeting. The agenda has now been published and is available here (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=26e66d4da2&e=382fa4aa2e) . The meeting will also be streamed live through the City’s Youtube page (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=76dac32fbb&e=382fa4aa2e) . Significant items on the agenda are the motions on Changes in Policing in Toronto (item CC22.2) and the police budget (item MM22.5). I have shared my comments in the last few weeks that are available here (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=ea9fec4adf&e=382fa4aa2e) and here (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=0de06f8fe8&e=382fa4aa2e) .
Today I am also sharing a recorded conversation (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=3737f44d64&e=382fa4aa2e) between my staff and I on Policing in Toronto, and Anti-Black & Indigenous Racism. I hope this new format will shed some light into my thoughts and process to best represent our concerns going forward.
ActiveTO The City also announced that two major downtown ActiveTO cycling network connections, on parts of University Avenue/Queen’s Park Crescent and Bloor Street, will be installed before the weekend, now that Toronto has entered Stage 2 of the reopening plan. As part of ActiveTO (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=a82b839e7c&e=382fa4aa2e) , weekend closures of major roads including Lake Shore Boulevard West (eastbound lanes only) from Windermere Avenue to Stadium Road will continue this weekend.
Emergency cooling shelters The City also opened 15 emergency cooling centres including in the Parkdale Library at 1303 Queen Street West. The Library’s centre opened during the weekends’ heat wave for those that needed air conditioned spaces. The City’s website (gordperks.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e13b1252c0c649074bca5b6e4&id=3e2eb76492&e=382fa4aa2e) provides information on how to stay healthy as the weather warms up as well as the schedules for cooling centres.
